Corsica “Mare e Monti” From Sea to Mountain tops

Day 1:
Pick-up your rental car in Ajaccio airport
Drive from Ajaccio to Piana, and stop along the way to contemplate the Iles
Sanguinaires or Crimson Islands.
Stop in the coastal village of Cargese, admire its bay or swim in its transparent
sapphire and emerald waters reflecting red cliffs that fall into the sea.

Day 2:
Porto: walk along the beach bordered by eucalyptus
trees. Take the elevated coastal path over rocky red sea cliffs boarding
clear blue waters. Take in the heady fragrance of lavender, myrtle, delicate
pink citrus flowers and cyclamen produced from the sun splashed “maquis”
vegetation … Once in the Calanques you will be surrounded by an incredible
array of granite needles with tortured shapes and rock sculpted formations
dotted with maritime pine trees. Take the boat to Scandola, this is the
most reputed part of the coastline, the wild natural beauty is spectacular.
It is also possible to explore on your own with a snorkel and mask.

Day 3: Calacuccia and the Niolu Valley
Drive the treacherous and beautiful road to the village
of Calacuccia in the Niolu Valley, the widest valley in Corsica. Calacuccia
is the cradle of Corsican culture and tradition that shaped its fearless
and nationalistic people. Calacuccia is one of many typical small villages
built in grey granite that grace its central lake.
Your guide will meet you at your hotel in the evening to discuss your walking
itinerary of day 4.

Day 4:
Explore on foot, with a local guide, this very isolated
area as you go from village to village, to reach the Nino Lake, high on
the plateau of an ancient glacier that forms odd pools set on fertile green
banks where you may be lucky to see wild horses feeding or galloping by.
Discover the silhouette of the Paglia Orba peaks and the imposing summit
of the Monte Cinto (8800 ft), the highest mountain in Corsica. The valley
of the Tavignano below is an area dotted with simple stone huts once used
as summer shelters by shepard’s.

Day 5:
Drive to Col de Bavella, and then discover on foot
the famous Aiguilles (Needles) of Bavella. Visit the villages of Santa Maria
Figanellia with its 12th century church and the fortified houses of Fozzano.
Swim in the cascades and pools that you will encounter along the paths.

Day 6:
Enjoy a day at the beach. South of Porto Vecchio, you will discover some of the most beautiful sandy beaches on the island, such as Santa Guilia, Palombaggia, Santa Manza, Tahiti…

Beautiful 3 star hotel located on the extreme point of the bay of Porto
Vecchio. The hotel is in a collection of houses blending in the sun splashed
maquis vegetation. Private beach.
Day 7:
Full day boat trip to the Lavezzi Islands. Depart Porto
Vecchio at 9 am, cruise along the coast past Palombaggia, Santa Giulia,
Sperone and Cavallo Island Stop in the port of Bonifacio before arriving
in the Lavezzi Islands a natural reserve. Visit the old cemetery, resting
place of the sailors of the Fregate that sank in the straights of Bonficio
in 18XX. . Lunch on the boat. Free time to snorkel or swim on pristine hidden
Island beaches chosen by your guide, return to Porto Vecchio by 6 pm

Day 8:
Visit the extraordinary city of Bonifacio perched on
white cliffs. Visit the narrow streets of the Ville Haute (high city) and
the white maritime cemetery. Enjoy a drink on the natural “calanque”
pier of the port.
In the afternoon drive west in the direction of Figari to village of Caldarello
and swim in one of its many neighbouring creeks.
